Snake Plant 101
Want to learn how to not kill a snake plant? This guy is one of the easiest plants to take of (for real). And I have 5 tips today to start you off. And as proof, I have a snake plant that I have kept alive for over a year and doesn’t seem to be dying!
1. Don’t overwater him! This is the quickest and easiest way to kill a snake plant. The little tag that came with him says 10-15 days. I usually put him on the 2 week rotation. In Winter, every 3-4 weeks can be enough. Just make sure his soil is dry before you water again. Don’t kill him with love, be a little stand-offish.
2. He loves indirect light. He can handle some direct sun and some shade. But put him in a room with a window and he’ll be set.
3. You don’t have to fertilize much, but if you do use a 10-10-10 fertilizer at half strength. And only during it’s growing season.
4. Don’t let your pets eat it, as it is toxic and will make them sick. And while your at it, refrain from eating it yourself 😉.
5. Keep it in soil and a pot with good drainage. Make sure there’s a hole in the bottom. And try a porous material for the pot, like a terra cotta.
So if you want to try a new plant, but are afraid of killing it, this guy is going to be a good bet. What do you think? Are you up for a new plant baby?
